Lichamelijke klachten en ziekten bij ernstige psychische stoornissen

Samenvatting

Patiënten met ernstige psychische stoornissen zijn in beperkte mate toegerust om goed voor zichzelf te zorgen. Zij herkennen pas later ziektesymptomen en nemen minder makkelijk het initiatief om naar een hulpverlener te gaan. Chronische stress, een ongezonde leefstijl en bijwerkingen van medicijnen dragen bij aan lichamelijke klachten en ziekten. Zij hebben meer kans op somatische comorbiditeit, zoals diabetes mellitus, COPD, hart- en vaatziekten en schildklierziekten. Huisartsen dienen zich dit te realiseren om er vervolgens een actief beleid op in te kunnen zetten.
