Samenvatting
Transseksualiteit heeft weinig te maken met seksualiteit en is ook geen seksuele afwijking, maar heeft te maken met de genderidentiteit. Psychotherapeutische behandeling is echter vrijwel nooit succesvol, waar een geslachtsaanpassende behandeling wél positieve resultaten geeft. Men kiest daarom tegenwoordig steeds voor deze zogeheten gender reassignment. Die bestaat uit een eerste fase van psychologisch-psychiatrische begeleiding en diagnostiek, vervolgens een fase van hormonale behandeling en real life experience, en tenslotte de geslachtsaanpassende chirurgie. Deze bijdrage gaat dieper in op de vagino-clitoroplastiek bij man-vrouwtransseksuelen en op de nazorg en laattijdige follow-up bij deze patiënten.
