Cognitieve gedragstherapie bij vermoeidheid na kanker

Samenvatting

Lichamelijk onverklaarde vermoeidheid die langer dan één jaar na de curatieve behandeling voor kanker nog aanwezig is, komt voor bij ten minste 25% van de ziektevrije kankerpatiënten en heeft grote gevolgen voor het dagelijks leven. Deze vermoeidheid kan niet meer verklaard worden door de aard van de behandeling (chemotherapie of radiotherapie) of het soort kanker. Hier is het onderscheid zinvol tussen uitlokkende factoren (de behandeling van kanker) en instandhoudende factoren. Diverse factoren kunnen de vermoeidheid in stand houden, zoals verwerkingsproblemen, angst voor een recidief, disfunctionele cognities, onregelmatig slaap-waakritme, over- of onderactiviteit, en irreële verwachtingen van de omgeving. Beïnvloeding van deze factoren door middel van cognitieve gedragstherapie leidt tot vermindering van vermoeidheid.
