De NHG-Richtlijn Infectiepreventie adviseert het gebruik van steriele handschoenen bij het sluiten van een wond met een hechting. Dit advies is opgesteld op basis van aanbevelingen in de WIP-richtlijn Infectiepreventie in de huisartsenpraktijk, die is gebaseerd op een expert opinion uit de jaren vijftig van de vorige eeuw. Om te onderzoeken of er een verband bestaat tussen wondinfecties en het gebruik van schone versus steriele handschoenen verrichtten we een zoekactie op MEDLINE en analyseerden we onze eigen gegevens. Noch de huidige literatuur, noch de analyse van onze eigen gegevens ondersteunen de WIP-richtlijn. Deze richtlijn sluit ook niet aan bij het algemene gebruik onder huisartsen. Wij pleiten daarom voor aanpassing van de richtlijn.

The use of clean non-sterile gloves during minor surgery is considered normal care in general practice. The guideline infection prevention of the Dutch College of General Practitioners advises the use of sterile gloves during minor surgery if sutures are used. This advise is based on the guideline infection prevention in general practice of the Dutch Working party on Infection Prevention (WIP), which is based on an expert opinion
We performed a Medline search and analyzed our own data to find a relation between the use of non-sterilized gloves and adverse effects.
The current literature as well as the analysis of our own data does not support the recommendations of the WIP-guideline. It also is not in correspondence with current practice among general practitioners. We therefore advise adjustment of the current guideline.
