Statines: is bloeddrukverlaging een relevant effect?

Samenvatting

In de recente NHG-standaard cardiovasculair risicomanagement is de indicatie voor cholesterolverlagers verruimd. Statines verlagen het cholesterol, maar hebben ook andere effecten. Bloeddrukverlaging is een regelmatig beschreven effect in grote onderzoeken. Een direct bloeddrukverlagend effect van statines kan mede de reductie van het cardiovasculair risico verklaren, en wellicht ook leiden tot verlaging van de antihypertensieve medicatie.
