Niks helpt bij chronische prostatitis

Samenvatting

Ciprofloxacine (Ciproxin®) en tamsulosine (Omnic®) blijken niet beter te werken dan een placebo bij de behandeling van chronische prostatitis of chronische bekkenpijn bij mannen. Hoewel het effect van antibiotica bij deze klachten nimmer is bewezen, gebruikt men ze nog steeds. In een goed opgezette RCT (2x2 factordesign) werd ciprofloxacine vergeleken met tamsulosine en met een placebo. Bovendien was er een groep die zowel de alfablokker als het antibioticum kreeg. Iedereen slikte de pillen 6 weken. Honderdzesennegentig mannen met klachten deden mee. De gemiddelde duur van de klachten was nogal lang; 6,2 jaar. De patiënten werden 3 en 6 weken na de kuur opnieuw onderzocht.
