Samenvatting

Achtergrond Het gebruik van antibiotica voor bovensteluchtweginfecties is omstreden. Het is de vraag of de voordelen opwegen tegen de bijwerkingen (uitslag, buikpijn, diarree en braken), kosten en bacteriële resistentie. Er is aandacht voor methodes om het gebruik van antibiotica voor bovensteluchtweginfecties te verminderen. Dit kan bijvoorbeeld door patiënten een recept mee te geven voor antibiotica dat zij bij aanhoudende klachten pas na meer dan 48 uur naar de apotheek mogen brengen . Deze methode vermindert aantoonbaar het aantal antibioticarecepten in landen waar nagenoeg alle luchtweginfecties met antibiotica behandeld worden.
