Samenvatting

Aan 300 lezers van de BMJ werd onlangs een artikel toegestuurd over de invloed van pijn bij herpes zoster op het dagelijks functioneren. De helft van de lezers ontving het origineel, de andere helft ontving hetzelfde artikel maar ondertekend door andere auteurs, die melding maakten van een belangenverstrengeling. Desgevraagd vonden de lezers uit de tweede groep het artikel minder interessant, relevant, valide en geloofwaardig dan de lezers van het origineel.1
