Samenvatting

Achtergrond Inhalatiecorticosteroïden (ICS) zijn een belangrijke pijler in de behandeling van chronisch astma. Over de werkzaamheid van ICS in het verminderen van de klachten en het verbeteren van de longfunctie bij deze patiënten-groep (stap 2 NHG-Standaard) bestaat geen twijfel. Alleen wanneer er sprake is van een milde of intermitterende vorm van astma kan volstaan worden met het gebruik van een bètamimeticum (stap 1). Naast het al langer gebruikte beclometason (BDP) en budenoside (BUD), is sinds enige jaren ook fluticason (FP) beschikbaar.
