Samenvatting

De Hoorn-studie heeft al een groot aantal proefschriften opgeleverd. Voor diabetesonderzoekers is het cohort Hoornse inwoners (>50, <75 jaar) dat in 1989 in het onderzoek werd ingesloten en dat sindsdien wordt gevolgd, uiteraard een goudmijn. De Vegt beschrijft wat de consequenties zijn van het hanteren van verschillende definities van diabetes. Verandert de prevalentie? Welke groepen patiënten hebben nu de grootste kans op morbiditeit en vervroegde mortaliteit.
