Samenvatting
Uit een computerdatabase van twee miljoen mensen werden er ruim 30.000 geselecteerd met astma op basis van hun medicatie in de leeftijd van 5 tot 44 jaar oud. Als iemand in de jaren erna overleed tengevolge van astma, werd deze patiënt gematched met zoveel mogelijk controles uit het cohort. Als controles werden genomen patiënten die net zolang in het cohort zaten en waarvan de astma even ernstig was.
