Zoektocht van een psychotherapeut in opleiding

Samenvatting

Hoe belangrijk is specifieke aandacht in de opleiding tot psychotherapeut voor de persoon van de psychotherapeut, dat wil zeggen: voor de ontwikkeling en bewustwording van een eigen persoonlijke stijl en overtuiging? Deze vraag wordt belicht vanuit verschillende invalshoeken, in eerste instantie vanuit mijn eigen leerervaringen als psychotherapeut in opleiding. Vervolgens wordt hij ook onderbouwd vanuit huidige ontwikkelingen en een theoretische visie op leren. Op grond van zowel persoonlijke als theoretische overwegingen kom ik tot de conclusie dat aandacht voor de persoon van de psychotherapeut het leerproces van de opleideling kan verdiepen, de professionele identiteit van de opgeleide psychotherapeut kan verstevigen en, misschien wel het belangrijkste, de invloed van werkende universele factoren in therapie kan versterken.

The quest of a psychotherapist in training

What is the importance of the explicit focus on the person of the psychotherapist during his professional training, i.e. a focus on the development and awareness of the therapist’s individual style and belief? This question is illuminated first from my personal experience as a psychotherapist in training and secondly by recent findings and theoretical approaches to learning. Personal and theoretical considerations lead to the conclusion that focussing on the psychotherapist’s person can deepen his learning process as a trainee, can strengthen his professional identity, and, maybe most important, can deepen the impact of the common factors in psychotherapy.
