Samenvatting
In dit artikel vergelijken we het klachtenprofiel van niet-westerse allochtone patiënten (N=100) op een symptoomgerichte (SCL-90-R) en een interpersoonlijke (IIP-64) vragenlijst met dat van autochtone patiënten (N=480) om na te gaan of er overeenkomsten en verschillen zijn in de manier waarop deze twee groepen hun klachten presenteren bij intake. De resultaten laten zien dat de scores van allochtone patiënten op de SCL-90-R ongedifferentieerd hoog waren in vergelijking met de scores voor autochtone patiënten. Op de IIP-64 verschilden de scores tussen de twee groepen slechts op één schaal, te weten ‘Overmatig accommoderend’, waarop allochtone patiënten lager scoorden dan autochtone. Vanuit klinisch oogpunt is het mogelijk relevant om patiënten met een allochtone achtergrond niet uit te sluiten van behandelingen gericht op interpersoonlijke problematiek ondanks hun hoge scores op algemene symptomen en klachten.

The severity of psychopathology and interpersonal problems. A study of the similarities and differences between non-western patients and patients from the ethnic majority.
The general level of symptoms and complaints (SCL-90-R) and the level of interpersonal problems (IIP-64) of non-western patients (N=100) were compared to that of patients from the ethnic majority group (N=480) in order to investigate similarities and differences in presenting their mental health problems at intake. Results with the SCL-90-R show that the non-western patients reported significantly higher levels of general symptomatology on all subscales compared to the ethnic majority group of patients. IIP-64 scores of non-western patients differed significantly from the scores of western patients on one subscale only: non-western patients reported less problems on the ‘Overly accommodating’ subscale.
