Summary
Psychosocial support for cancer patients: A review of the literature
A review of the literature was made to determine the effects of psychosocial support programs for cancer patients, and to explore the characteristics of support programs that contribute to their effectiveness. The latter part of the study was complicated because it became clear that the effects of psychosocial support programs are not unequivocal, since study results often lack comparability due to methodological differences between studies. However, on account of positive statements made by cancer patients who previously attended psychosocial support programs, it can be argued that these programs should be offered as regular healthcare facilities.
