Samenvatting
Al langer is bekend dat hormonale substitutietherapie (HST) bij postmenopauzale vrouwen leidt tot een duidelijk toegenomen risico op galblaasaandoeningen (cholelithiasis, cholecystitis of cholecystectomie). Liu en medewerkers1 onderzochten in een prospectief onderzoek in het Million Women Cohort of het risico op galblaasaandoeningen door HST bij postmenopauzale vrouwen verschillend is na transdermale of orale toediening. Transdermale oestrogenen hebben – in tegenstelling tot oraal toegediende oestrogenen – mogelijk een kleiner effect op galblaasaandoeningen door het vermijden van het first-pass metabolisme.
