Samenvatting

Het beschermen van reizigers tegen malaria is steeds meer van belang, aangezien het aantal reizigers naar tropische gebieden sterk toeneemt. Jaarlijks zijn er ca. 1700 malariagevallen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, 1300 in de Verenigde Staten en 3000 in Frankrijk. Malaria is zeer risicovol voor reizigers als ze geen of onjuiste chemoprofylaxe innemen. Recentelijk is een overzichtsartikel over de preventie van malaria bij reizigers in de BMJ verschenen. 1
