Abstract
Psychotherapie kan voor een kind aangewezen lijken, terwijl de ouders niet kunnen toelaten dat dit kind een persoonlijke groei doormaakt. Aan de hand van gespreksfragmenten tonen de auteurs aan hoe het consultatieverloop kan uitwijzen of er een groeibevorderende ruimte voor kindertherapie wordt gevonden of gecreëerd. Deze ruimte ontstaat pas wanneer de therapie kan worden gezien in het verlengde van de ouderlijke zorg voor het kind. Groei in ouderlijke identiteit blijkt hierbij cruciaal te zijn.

Het intake–gesprek met Steven en zijn moeder werd gevoerd door H. Stiers.
We beperken onze interpretaties hier vooral tot de mogelijke boodschap die de (tamelijk associatieve) mededelingen over Steven in zich dragen. Aan de hand van deze interpretaties proberen we ons een voortschrijdend beeld te vormen van de wijze waarop de moeder en haar omgeving het ouder–zijn en het hulp vragen beleven.
Nu gaat de aandacht niet meer naar de aard van de spanning in de ruimere familie en de wijze waarop het ouder–zijn hierdoor wordt gekleurd. We willen (retrospectief) nagaan hoe sterk het ouderlijk functioneren belast wordt door deze familiespanning.

Child psychotherapy in any family?
Psychotherapy may seem to be indicated for a child, while the family is not able to give consent to the personal growth of this child. On the basis of fragments of clinical interviews, the authors demonstrate how the consultation procedure can reveal whether a growth–promoting space for therapy can be found or created. This space can only arise if therapy is seen as an extension of the parents' own good care for the child. This is why growth in parental identity turns is crucial in this matter.
