De rol van heparansulfaatproteoglycanen in de pathogenese van de ziekte van Alzheimer

Abstract

Mede door de ontwikkeling van antibiotica, uitgebalanceerde voeding en aandacht voor hygiëne is de gemiddelde levensverwachting in de twintigste eeuw drastisch gestegen. Als gevolg hiervan is ook de incidentie van leeftijdsgerelateerde aandoeningen, zoals de ziekte van Alzheimer, toegenomen. Verwacht wordt dat in Nederland tegen het midden van deze eeuw meer dan 300.000 patiënten aan de ziekte van Alzheimer zullen lijden.
