Abstract
In dit artikel wil ik de huidige stand van kennis op het gebied van imitatie bespreken. Recente ontdekkingen uit de neurofysiologie en de psychologie hebben een nieuw licht geworpen op de vraag hoe mensen elkaar kunnen imiteren. De belangrijkste ontdekking is dat we bewegingen van anderen niet klakkeloos imiteren. Integendeel, van jongs af aan proberen we vooral de doelgerichte aspecten van een bepaalde taak na te doen. Het belang van deze bevindingen voor de neuropsychologische praxis zal ik hier aan de orde brengen.
