De Assepoester van de ouderenpsychiatrie?

Samenvatting

Persoonlijkheidsstoornissen bij ouderen is een onderbelicht thema in de ouderenpsychiatrie en de ver-pleeghuisgeneeskunde. Persoon lijkheidspathologie manifesteert zich op latere leeftijd veelvuldig als gevolg van inadequate coping ten aanzien van levens-fasegerelateerde stressoren. Verzorgings- en ver-pleegbehoeftige ouderen vertonen om die reden vaak aanpassingsproblematiek in de vorm van gedragsproblemen of angst- en stemmingsklachten. In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van conceptuele problemen rondom dit thema en van recente ontwikkelingen op het gebied van diagnostiek en behandeling. Bepleit wordt dat persoonlijkheidsstoornissen bij ouderen een verwaarloosd thema is dat meer aandacht verdient.
