Raising the retirement age will be disadvantageous to many people
In the Netherlands and in several other countries as well it is proposed to increase the retirement age from 65 to 67 years of age or over. However, early mortality is not being taken into account. If the retirement age is increase, many people will be unable to benefit from pensions, simply because they will not live to enjoy them. In the Netherlands 14 out of every 100 people do not reach the retirement age of 65, and with an increased retirement age this number will increase proportionally.
