Tandenborstels worden gecontamineerd door het gebruik. Reden waarom men heeft gepoogd dit probleem aan te pakken. Daarvoor zijn onder meer ontwikkeld specifieke desinfectantia, tandpasta’s en tandenborstels met antibacteriële eigenschappen (gecoat met triclosan).
