Als na een wortelkanaalbehandeling, ook na lange tijd, genezing uitblijft, staat de tandarts voor de keuze tussen een conservatieve herbehandeling of een chirurgische aanpak. De chirurgische endodontie (‘apexresectie’) heeft de laatste jaren een opmerkelijke groei doorgemaakt. De introductie van de operatiemicroscoop maakte de ontwikkeling van nieuw instrumentarium noodzakelijk.
