Abstract

A major improvement in limb lengthening is the introduction of the Intramedullary Skeletal Kinetic Distractor (ISKD). The ISKD is designed for the femur and tibia and combines the advantages of intramedullary stabilisation with the possibility of limb lengthening. Considering the low rate of complications compared with application of external fixation in leg lengthening, the higher costs of this implant are acceptable.
