Samenvatting
Bij subklinische hypothyreoïdie is er een asymptomatische verhoogde concentratie van thyrotropine (TSH), in het algemeen met normale concentraties van vrij thyroxine (T4) en triiodothyronine (T3). Subklinische hypothyreoïdie gaat samen met een verhoogde kans op bipolaire stemmingsstoornissen, atherosclerose van de aorta,myocardinfarct, diastolische disfunctie, verhoogde perifere vasculaire weerstand, en verminderde ontwikkeling van kinderen van moeders met dergelijke subklinische hypothyreoïdie. Verlaagde vrije en totale concentraties van thyroxine zijn gemeld bij patiënten die leverenzyminducerende anti-epileptica gebruiken
