Geneesmiddelenbewaking in Nederland

Samenvatting

De kern van goede farmacotherapie is het voortdurend afwegen van te behalen voordeel ten opzichte van de mogelijke risico’s. De systematische aandacht voor bijwerkingen van geneesmiddelen valt in Nederland onder de regie van het in de jaren zestig opgerichte College ter Beoordeling van Geneesmiddelen. Een belangrijke rol in de praktische monitoring van bijwerkingen speelt het Nederlands Bijwerkingencentrum Lareb, een organisatie die in de jaren tachtig is opgericht door artsen en apothekers. Dit model, waarin naast registratiehouders en wetenschappelijk onderzoekers ook artsen, apothekers en (sinds 2003) patiënten een inbreng hebben in de geneesmiddelenbewaking, heeft zijn nut in de praktijk volop bewezen. Deze bijdrage gaat in op de structuur en de resultaten van dit vrijwillige meldsysteem.
