Samenvatting
Consulten met kinderen verlopen vaak volgens een stereotiep patroon, waarbij de feitelijke communicatie zich afspeelt tussen arts en ouder. Onduidelijkheid over de wenselijkheid van actieve participatie van het kind in medische gesprekken is hier veelal debet aan.
Ouders zijn (te) snel geneigd om als woordvoerder voor hun kind op te treden. Kinderen hebben zelf meestal nog geen helder beeld van het proces van medische gespreksvoering en stellen zich afwachtend op. Door middel van metacommunicatie kunnen artsen helderheid geven over het gesprekskader en zo een meer kindgerichte consultvoering entameren.
