Rugpijn komt veel voor bij vrouwen met een verder normaal verlopende zwangerschap. In eerder onderzoek is gerapporteerd dat 50% of meer van alle zwangere vrouwen tijdens hun zwangerschap last hebben van rugpijn. Twee alom geaccepteerde verklaringen zijn dat rugpijn tijdens de zwangerschap wordt
