Summary
Since increasing numbers of aged people are rehabilitated in nursing homes, it is important to describe this group in more detail. Hence, a retrospective study was conducted, based on information from patient-files, to identify the specific features of these elderly and their rehabilitation process. It was found that most patients are female and live independently at home. Mostly they suffer from substantial co-morbidity, which has a tremendous impact on the rehabilitation process. Nevertheless, most rehabilitants are successful in returning to their previous living environment.

Omdat steeds meer oudere mensen gerevalideerd worden in het verpleeghuis, is het belangrijk deze groep goed in kaart te brengen. Om deze reden is een dossierstudie verricht naar de specifieke kenmerken en het revalidatieproces van deze groep ouderen. Daaruit blijkt dat geriatrische revalidanten vaak vrouwen zijn en vaak nog zelfstandig thuis wonen. Er is meestal sprake van veel comorbiditeit die het revalidatie proces sterk beïnvloedt. Desondanks lukt het de meerderheid van de revalidanten weer naar hun oude woonomgeving terug te keren.
