Obesitas en sterfte bij ouderen

Abstract

Er is toenemend en overtuigend bewijs dat obesitas in de algemene bevolking gepaard gaat met een hoger sterfterisico. Bij ouderen is dit nog minder duidelijk. De afgelopen jaren zijn resultaten van een aantal epidemiologische studies gepubliceerd waarin onderzocht werd of obesitas ook bij ouderen in de algemene bevolking (1), respectievelijk ouderen opgenomen in een verpleeghuis (2), leidt tot meer sterfte.
