Beroepsastma: een onzekere toekomst na een zekere diagnose?

Samenvatting

Een 52-jarige banketbakker wordt door de medisch adviseur van zijn arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering naar een longarts verwezen voor nadere evaluatie van zijn ruim 10 jaar bestaande en steeds toenemende luchtwegklachten. Door zijn huisarts is hij 6 jaar met wisselend succes behandeld voor astma. Een mogelijke relatie met het werk zou in de contacten met de huisarts nimmer expliciet aan de orde zijn geweest. Of heeft de banketbakker het onderwerp wellicht ook bewust gemeden? De longarts constateert: astma, werkgerelateerde klachten en een allergie voor meelstof en alfa-amylase. Waarom heeft deze diagnose zo lang op zich laten wachten?
