Samenvatting

Jarenlang is het orthopantomogram de röntgenopname geweest voor de diagnostiek van kaakafwijkingen en ter voorbereiding van operatieve behandelingen. Dat was ook niet verwonderlijk. De panoramische opname is snel te maken, geschikt voor screeningsdoeleinden en heeft voor de planning van chirurgische ingrepen zijn nut bewezen. Daarom wordt het OPT door kaakchirurgen het meest gebruikt voorafgaand aan de verwijdering van derde molaren. Vooral om de relatie tussen de wortel van de onderverstandskies en de nervus alveolaris inferior te bepalen, wordt het OPT vrijwel altijd gebruikt.
