Abstract

Parodontale nazorg is een essentieel onderdeel van elke parodontale behandeling. Onvoldoende bestrijding van de plaque en het ontbreken van de benodigde nazorg zijn in de meeste gevallen de voornaamste oorzaak van tegenvallende resultaten en mislukking van parodontale behandeling. In de parodontale literatuur zijn talloze artikelen verschenen waarin het belang van nazorg of secondaire preventie (Engels: maintenance care, supportive treatment) aangetoond wordt. Regelmatige professionele gebitsreiniging en begeleiding zijn nodig om parodontale gezondheid in stand te houden.
