Evaluatie van de zin en onzin van cognitieve training bij Alzheimer dementie

Samenvatting

Dementie is een progressief degeneratieve aandoening waarbij de persoon stelselmatig verschillende functies verliest. De betrokkene wordt hierdoor steeds meer geconfronteerd met beperkingen in zijn dagelijks functioneren. Alzheimer dementie is de meest voorkomende, de best bestudeerde en de best gekende vorm van dementie. Veelal staan in het begin van het proces de cognitieve tekorten op de voorgrond. Naast geheugenverlies als meest typerende kenmerk, zijn er problemen op het gebied van aandacht, taal, oriëntatie, uitvoerend vermogen (praxis) en plannend functioneren (executieve functies). Deze cognitieve disfuncties hebben ook hun weerslag op psychosociaal vlak (terugtrekking, dysforie, decorumverlies en ontremming).
