Er wordt vaak beweerd dat de eerste minuten van een psychiatrisch interview doorslaggevend zijn voor de uiteindelijke diagnose. In urgentiepsychiatrie moet men snel beslissingen nemen op basis van beperkte informatie en ook huisartsen blijken vaak door tijdgebrek in korte tijd een diagnose te stellen.
