Samenvatting

Hart- en vaatziekten vormen de belangrijkste doodoorzaak in ontwikkelde landen en veroorzaken het hoogste sterftepercentage. In ons land vormen ze de belangrijkste doodoorzaak, met 33 procent van de totale sterfte. Per jaar sterven in ons land meer dan 45.000 mensen aan deze aandoeningen. De laatste jaren is er wel een daling in het sterftecijfer door hart- en vaatziekten. Dit komt deels door preventieve maatregelen en deels door verbeteringen in de curatieve zorg.2)
