Multidisciplinaire aanpak van whiplash: een audiologische benadering

Abstract

Het laat of chronisch whiplashsyndroom onderscheidt zich van het acuut whiplashsyndroom doordat de chronische patiënten na zes maanden nog altijd klachten rapporteren en vaak meer maatschappelijke en emotionele problemen ondervinden dan de acute patiënten. Deze klachten zijn echter ook met neuropsychologische tests vaak moeilijk te objectiveren. Eén van de klachten is overgevoeligheid voor geluid. Twee gehooraandoeningen, tinnitus en hyperacusis, zullen hier worden besproken, waarbij de vraag centraal staat of gehoorbeschadiging tijdens acceleratie-/deceleratietraumata een verklaring kan vormen voor de variaties in de klachten en het klachtenbeloop van whiplashpatiënten.
