Abstract

Communicatie tussen zenuwcellen verloopt veelal met behulp van chemische boodschappermoleculen, die door zenuwcellen worden afgegeven als reactie op hun depolarisatie. Deze signaalstoffen kunnen klein zijn, zoals de ‘klassieke’ neurotransmitters acetylcholine, serotonine, dopamine en sommige aminozuren, of bestaan uit meerdere aaneengekoppelde aminozuren, namelijk de neuropeptiden.
