Samenvatting
Sinds de jaren vijftig van deze eeuw zijn ‘stroke rehabilitation wards’ gebaseerd op een multidisciplinaire benadering in opkomst. De gedachte was en is nog steeds dat deze gespecialiseerde revalidatieafdelingen door onder andere gecoördineerde teamzorg, stafeducatie en instructies over het zorgmanagement van de individuele patiënten, de patiëntenzorg en in het bijzonder de therapie op een hoger plan brengen. Bovendien zouden deze afdelingen een goede basis vormen voor onderzoek. In dezelfde periode is een groot aantal methoden in vooral de fysiotherapie en ergotherapie ontwikkeld. Deze methoden variëren van neurologische oefentherapieën tot cognitieve revalidatiemethoden.
