Samenvatting

Laminectomie, met of zonder artrodese, wordt in de Verenigde Staten per jaar bij ongeveer 34.000 patiënten toegepast wegens degeneratieve lumbale stenose van de wervelkolom. Het aantal laminectomieën blijkt in zowel grote als kleine geografische gebieden in de Verenigde Staten opvallende variaties te vertonen, wat erop zou kunnen wijzen dat er onder artsen aanzienlijke onzekerheid bestaat met betrekking tot de juiste indicaties voor deze procedure.
