Samenvatting

Dit artikel schetst de manier van werken in de anorectale fysiologische afdeling van het Ottawa General Hospital. In het eerste deel worden anatomie en fysiologie van anus en rectum en de defecatie beschreven. Het tweede deel gaat in op de test- en diagnostiseringsprocedures. Tenslotte worden de behandelmogelijkheden, inclusief fysiotherapie beschreven en wordt een overzicht geboden van de tot nu toe behaalde resultaten en mogelijkheden tot verder onderzoek.
