Samenvatting

In de psychoanalyse zijn in de loop van de geschiedenis twee opvallende veranderingen opgetreden. Een in de werkwijze en een in de te behandelen patiënten. Naast de klassieke psychoanalyse, waarin de patiënt met een neurotische problematiek vijf keer per week liggend op de divan wordt geanalyseerd, is ook de minder frequente behandelwijze (on analytic lines) ingevoerd waarin de patiënt tegenover de therapeut zit. Vervolgens is er veel meer aandacht gekomen voor andere dan neurotische problematiek. Deze uitbreiding ging gepaard met een verandering of versobering van de doelstelling.
