Samenvatting

Mensen met gecompliceerde rouw ervaren een hoge mate van scheidingsangst, traumatische stress of een combinatie van beide. Aan de hand van de gevalsbeschrijving van een vrouw die haar zoon verloor, wordt de diagnostiek en de behandeling van gecompliceerde rouw beschreven. De psychotherapeut kon niet starten met de cognitief-gedragstherapeutische richtlijnbehandeling door het hoge spanningsniveau van de cliënt.

Treatment of complicated grief

Those who are bereaved of complicated grief experience high levels of separation distress, traumatic distress or both. In an exemplary clinical case of a woman who lost her son, diagnostic instruments and treatment are presented. The therapist couldn't start the guideline cognitive-behavioral treatment because of the client's high levels of distress. Following the three-phased trauma treatment model this guideline was extended with elements of attachment-therapy and schema-focused therapy, among others. The use of evidence based guidelines extended with supplementary therapy is recommended for clinical practice.
