Abstract
Weerstand bij patiënten kan de therapeutische context in het algemeen betreffen, maar ook bepaalde veranderingen tijdens een goed lopende behandeling. De auteur verduidelijkt dit laatste verschijnsel met de aangepaste conflictdriehoek van David Malan. Twee begrippen van Peggy Papp – ‘het dilemma van de verandering’ en ‘het Griekse koor’ – vormen aansluitend de basis voor een therapeutische interventie waarmee de patiënt inzicht in en regie over zijn innerlijk conflict verwerft. Een aantal veel voorkomende dilemma's wordt beschreven evenals de noodzaak van een juiste timing.

Resistance and the dilemma of change. David Malan meets Peggy Papp
The patient's resistance to change may relate both to the treatment in general and to specific changes in the course of a satisfying therapy. The author explains the latter phenomenon by means of a variant of David Malan's triangle of conflict. Two concepts introduced by Peggy Papp – ‘the dilemma of change’ and ‘the Greek chorus’ – are the other ingredients of an intervention that aims to help the patient gain insight in and control of the inner conflict underlying his resistance. Some common dilemmas are described as well as the need for proper timing of the intervention.
