Abstract

‘Informed consent’ in psychotherapy
Procedures for informed consent are still not fully developed in psychotherapy. Explicit criteria for the obligation to provide information and the requirement for permission in line with the law wgbo still remain to be developed. Professional codes of behaviour differ on this point. Implementing informed consent procedures encounter intrinsic, relational and practical difficulties. Information in the form of folders or brochures is only one part of the whole procedure. Supporters refer to informed consent as a fruitful, pre–therapeutic activity. Reaching informed consent is particularly important in psychotherapy since it enables the interests and the autonomy of the client to be safeguarded as much as possible.
