Summary
Pediatric physiotherapy focuses on the functional consequences of a given pediatric disease or disorder. It is regarded as one of the disability medicine disciplines. Referring doctors need to know that pediatric physiotherapy not just targets the impairments of the disorder or disease, but the functional problems and delayed or disturbed activities of daily childhood life. Insight into the underlying pathology Regular with a problem and function focussed assessment is needed to make the right therapeutic choices. Just treating impairments does suggest to parents that interventions be meant to improve function, while it usually doesn't.
samenvatting
Kinderfysiotherapie richt zich op de functionele gevolgen en consequenties van pediatrische ziekten en aandoeningen. Bij de indicatiestelling tot een kinderfysiotherapeutische interventie dient men dan ook altijd de functie, de functieproblematiek en het kinderlijk functioneren centraal te stellen en niet alleen de ziektebegeleidende orgaan- of systeemstoornissen. Verwijzingen met het doel om de verloren gegane functie weer in te vullen of de symptomen te bestrijden, zonder dat er zicht is op het onderliggend lijden, wekt bij de ouders de indruk dat er aan het probleem van hun kind wat gedaan wordt terwijl dat allerminst het geval is.
