Beslissingen rond en begeleiding bij het levenseinde van pasgeborenen

Samenvatting

De medische omkadering van het voortplantingsproces kende de laatste jaren een ongebreidelde vooruitgang met een aanzienlijke grensverlegging binnen de perinatale zorg tot gevolg. De mogelijkheden van prenatale en zelfs pre-implantatiediagnostiek zijn sterk uitgebreid. Dankzij echografische, genetische en andere technieken kan men steeds meer afwijkingen bij het ongeboren kind opsporen of uitsluiten. In het laatste geval worden ouders na onterechte vrees gerustgesteld. In een aantal andere gevallen biedt prenatale diagnose de mogelijkheid de foetus intra-uterien te behandelen of de zwangere moeder voor de geboorte naar een tertiair perinataal centrum te verwijzen om zo in een optimale neonatale opvang te kunnen voorzien, of de verlossingsmodus, rekening houdend met de aard van de handicap, te kunnen aanpassen.
