Summary
We describe two newborn infants with hydranencephalus. Hydranencephalus is a rare congenital malformation of the brain and may be the cause of an enlarged head in a newborn infant. Hydranencephalus has its origin antenatally and is related to extensive loss of brain tissue due to unknown cause. Curative treatment for hydranencephaly is not available and in contrast to hydrocephaly the prognosis is always poor.
