Abstract

De Bildt, A. A., & Kraijer, D. W. (2007). Pervasive developmental disorders in children and adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities, Kind en Adolescent, 28 (3), 171-181.

Pervasive developmental disorders (pdds) frequently occur in children with mild intellectual disabilities (mid): the most recent Dutch percentages report almost 1 in 10, 15 times higher than the 0.6% in the general population. The co-occurrence of pdd with mid significantly affects the development and behaviour of the child, also with respect to adaptive skills and indirectly the level of education that can be attained. The high prevalence and the severe consequences of pdd in mid justify an early and thorough diagnostic process. Instruments, such as the pdd-mrs, the adi-r and the ados may be of help in this process.

Keywords: mild intellectual disability (mid); Pervasive Developmental Disorders (pdd); diagnostic instruments.
