Summary: This paper describes the features and the effectiveness of a skills for life programme for students in secondary education. An experimental (n = 412) and a control group (n = 546) were compared at two points in time (on completion of the programme and twelve months later). Results include significant signs among the students in the experimental group of progress in positive thinking, in perceived tension when adequately expressing one's negative feelings, in the intention to use social and emotional skills and in the relationship with classmates. Results related to the frequency of adequately expressing one's negative feelings and the relationship with teachers showed no differences between the experimental and the control groups.
